University Liggett School students sweep DAR essay contests 

University Liggett School proudly announces its outstanding achievements in the Louisa St. Clair Daughters of the American Revolution essay contests. The school’s students showcased remarkable prowess, sweeping both the high school and middle school categories in this prestigious competition.

In the high school category, ULS sophomores Madeline Unkel, Teresa Romanelli, and Lucy Wujek earned top honors, with Unkel securing first place, Romanelli earning second, and Wujek earning third place. 

Meanwhile, in the middle school category, Liggett Lifers Sophia Carson earned first-place honors; Amelie Duhaime earned second-place honors, and Jacob Rabbani earned third-place honors. Liggett Lifers are students who have attended ULS since prekindergarten or kindergarten. 

Unkel, who has attended ULS since sixth grade, and Carson's exceptional first-place essays have been forwarded to the state competition.

"This accomplishment speaks volumes about the diligence and commitment of our students," expressed Chris Hemler, Cynthia N. Ford Chair of History and the Social Studies and social studies teacher at University Liggett School. "Their passion for history and the depth of their insights are truly commendable. We are immensely proud of their accomplishments and the effort they invested in crafting these essays."

University Liggett School has long fostered a tradition of encouraging and supporting award-winning writing among its students, thanks to the dedication of its faculty and a robust curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking and scholarly pursuits.

According to Ellisse Thompson of the Louisa St. Clair Daughters of the American Revolution chapter, this year’s contest witnessed a record number of participants. Thompson remarked, "The judging process was challenging, as the quality of the essays submitted by all students was exceptional."

In celebration of these achievements, University Liggett School remains committed to further nurturing students' interest in history and writing, ensuring continued success in academic pursuits.
