University Liggett School students earn honors at inaugural Grosse Pointe History Day

University Liggett School is pleased to announce that 19 students were honored at the inaugural Grosse Pointe History Day and are eligible to showcase their history projects in the statewide Michigan History Day on Saturday, March 2. Winners will also receive a $100 prize from the Grosse Pointe Learning Collaborative.

Students from University Liggett School, Maire Elementary School, and Grosse Pointe Academy presented on topics such as:

  • 9/11 Grosse Pointe Connections including the Harper and Allard Amvets Post
  • Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Speech at Grosse Pointe High School
  • In Our Small Way: How Maire Students Helped in World War II
  • French Influence and Presence in Grosse Pointe History
  • The Detroit Institute for Children and Their Impact on Childhood Disease

The event was held at the Ford House and was presented by the Grosse Pointe Learning Collaborative, which is an organization that brings together educational institutions and assets to collaborate and build local learning experiences for learners of all ages.
