University Liggett School students announce Shoes that Fit 5K Fun Run

The University Liggett School Athletic Department and seniors Ally Metry and Summer Orlowski are pleased to announce the Shoes That Fit 5K Fun Run from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20. The 5K run/walk will start promptly at 10 a.m. All proceeds from the event will benefit Shoes That Fit. In addition to the 5K Fun Run, there will be food trucks, children’s stations, and more!

For the past three years, Metry, Orlowski, and ULS Support Specialist and Dean of Ninth Grade Kirsten Hibbs have spearheaded the Shoes That Fit Liggett Campaign. To date, the trio has raised over $15,000 for Shoes That Fit, equating to more than 600 pairs of shoes delivered to local elementary and middle schools.

For their senior year, Metry and Orlowski decided it was their last chance to make a difference while at ULS and decided to involve the entire Grosse Pointe community.

All participants must register at www.uls.org/shoesthatfit. Registration is $40 per participant. Walkers must be able to finish the race in 2.5 hours.

In addition, The Shoes That Fit Liggett Campaign is looking for sponsors for the event. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor please reach out directly to Mrs. Hibbs khibbs@uls.net.

Shoes That Fit provides new athletic shoes for children across the country who wouldn’t otherwise have proper shoes. New shoes enable them to run, jump, play, compete, and participate to the fullest. And that’s a big step into their fullest potential!
