Tickets are on sale now!

The University Liggett School Players production of Big Fish is coming to the school’s main stage March 7-10.

Under the direction of Dr. Phillip Moss, Creative and Performing Arts Department Chair and director, the production of Big Fish will be largely student-led. Upper School students direct the show’s choreography, costuming, scenic design, direction of the musical’s younger players and perform the role of assistant director.

“Every show is an opportunity to learn and grow, but once again our young artists have reached deep to create music, choreography, scenic elements and costumes in a strong effort to bring excellence to our stage,” Moss said.

In the primary roles are seniors Gio Thams and Olivia Johnson. Joining them are senior Mark Saigh, juniors Madison Reeves, Alexa Kalyvas, and senior Jordan Stefanides-Cartenga. The show features nearly 80 students in various aspects of the production including technical and design roles, and the pit orchestra. Thams and Johnson have also been key in the creative team. Thams has been supporting the vocal music for the show, and Johnson is the choreographer.  Backstage leadership has been handled by senior Mallory Childs, and the technical director for the show is senior Luke Yoshida.

Big Fish is a rollicking fantasy set in the American South, and centers on the charismatic Edward Bloom, whose impossible stories of his life's epic adventures frustrate his son Will. Now, with Edward on his deathbed, Will must embark on his own journey to find out who his father really is, unraveling the man from the myth, the truth from the tall tales. The musical is based on the book by John August Music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa.

Performances are 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9 and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10. The Sunday matinee performance will feature the rose ceremony, honoring seniors, before the performance. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased online at uls.seatyourself.biz.
