University Liggett School adds camps to summer lineup

University Liggett School is pleased to announce that it has added four new summer camps for 2024 — adding to the school’s already robust summer offerings. New this year are the Manny Legace goalie camp, strings camp, Spanish language and culture camp, and Chinese language and culture camp.

The Manny Legace goalie camp is open to goalies aged 12 through 18. Skaters will receive elite, personalized NHL-level goaltending instruction from Stanley Cup winner and NHL goalie coach Manny Legace. Additional instructors include NHL goalie Jack Campbell and Red Wings draft pick Trey Augustine. Each day will include two 60-minute ice sessions, off-ice training, and one-on-one video review of positioning and technique. Goalies will leave with specialized workout and stretching routines designed by goalies for goalies, as well as tips for reducing in-season injuries.

During strings camp students will learn new pieces, work on their note literacy skills, and make music with old friends and new. This camp is for string players (violin, viola, cello, and string bass) with at least one year of playing experience and is for rising third through rising sixth graders. Students should provide their own instruments and will perform an end-of-camp concert for family and friends on the last day of camp. Instructors are ULS lower school strings teacher Kelly Rhode and Allison Harris. Strings camp runs August 12-16.

The week-long Chinese language and culture camp, led by ULS middle school Chinese teacher Han Zhang, will demystify the Chinese language and culture through a variety of fun activities, including songs, videos, interactive games, stories, arts, and crafts. Campers will learn an effective and sustainable method to learn Chinese, as well as receive an introduction to East Asian history and culture. Specific topics include self-introduction, family, food, and hobbies.

Our Chinese language and culture camp is a great opportunity to expose your child to new cultures and an additional language while they are at a prime age for language acquisition. The Chinese language and culture camp is open to rising third through seventh graders and will run June 17-21.

Our week-long Spanish language and culture camp, led by ULS middle school Spanish teacher Señora Serratos, will introduce campers to the rich culture and language of Spanish-speaking countries. Campers will explore the language and culture of Latin America through play, songs, art, and stories in a fun and relaxed environment. Some of the themes explored will include animals, family, food, and pastimes. The Spanish language and culture camp runs August 5-9 and is open to rising third through seventh graders.

Returning this year to the University Liggett School Summer Programs line-up are our Mad Scientists at Work and Minecraft camps. Rising third through seventh graders will discover their inner scientist through hands-on activities and experiments. During our Minecraft camp, also for rising third through seventh graders, campers will explore game design concepts by creating their own levels, maps, structures, and design themes for others to explore.

These specialty camps are offered through University Liggett School Summer Programs, which also offers a six-week Day Camp and weekly sports camps for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. All Summer Programs are held on the campus of University Liggett School. Dates, rates, and times vary. Find more information or register at www.uls.org/summerprograms.
