University Liggett School Varsity Baseball Partners with Detroit PAL

ULS Varsity Baseball Players provide guidance at 2021 Detroit PAL Spring Players Clinic

University Liggett School’s Head Baseball Coach Dan Cimini and his Varsity Baseball Players and coaches ran a baseball skills clinic for all Detroit Police Athletic League (PAL) baseball players participating in the nonprofit’s first Detroit PAL Spring Players Clinic at the Corner Ballpark. The players clinic covered baseball fundamentals; from proper throwing, grounding balls, batting stance, catching fly balls, pitching, real-game scenarios and running the bases. Earlier in the week, Coach Cimini also ran a PAL coaches clinic at The Corner Ballpark for all PAL coaches.

“It was an honor and a privilege to be able to give back to PAL coaches and players downtown at The Corner Ballpark,” said Cimini. “The coaches were amazing. The highlight was the PAL kids who came to learn. It was so special to watch the interactions and bond that happened between the players, coaches and kids. When 70 kids are running around with smiles on their faces and learning baseball skills in the process, what more could you ask for?”

Additionally, plans are in development between PAL and ILS Varsity Soccer Coach David Dwaihy for Dwaihy and the soccer team to participate similarly in a PAL clinic in the near future.
Since 1969, the Detroit Police Athletic League (PAL) has created safe and supportive places for kids to play while building positive relationships. Detroit PAL is now integrated in the fabric of the Detroit community where parents and schools connect to programs for youth that develop their confidence and motivation.
