University Liggett School honors longtime parent volunteer

University Liggett School parent and alumna Jennifer Barnhart-Fozo ‘87 was recognized with the Shelli Elmer Parent Volunteer Award during the school’s Volunteer Recognition Reception. Fozo has been a longtime and committed volunteer at the school. She has volunteered at the school in countless ways, using her professional skills as an interior designer to benefit ULS. Fozo has been a longtime member of the Liggett Knight committee, helping to set up and design the auction displays year after year. She also worked with the school’s art department to create art projects that were used in many Liggett Knight auctions, and helped design the decor for the Middle School library when the Middle School moved from Briarcliff to Cook Road. Jen has served as a room parent, worked on the Treasure Hunt and this year is serving as co-chair of the Senior Party for Class of 2022. “Anyone who knows Jen, knows that she always has a smile on her face whether she is setting up boxes and displays at Liggett Knight or helping students with an art project. And she always wears a smile when she is here on campus,” said Kelley Hamilton, Associate Head of School and Chief Operating Officer. Fozo and her husband, Mike ‘87, have two children, Maddie '18 and Stephen '22. The Shelli Elmer Parent Volunteer Award was created in 2016 and given posthumously to Elmer, who for many years, volunteered at school events. In addition to Elmer, previous recipients include Connie deRuiter and Kelley Vreeken, in 2017, Susan Azar ’87 in 2018, DeAnn Lukas ‘85 in 2019, Colleen Fitzgerald and Lan-Huong Reilly in 2020, and Gretchen Knoll in 2021.
